Twenty-three courses, private and public, including Palmetto Dunes Resort and Shipyard Golf Club, offer courses designed by the top names in golf; Van der Meer Tennis and the Smith Stearns Tennis Academy offer first rate instruction. There are over 300 tennis and pickleball courts on the island.

Arts and Culture

Arts celebrations, food festivals, musical performances and live theater fill the events calendar. Enjoy the month-long Gullah Celebration in February showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Gullah people. The Hilton Head Island Seafood Festival is also in February followed by The Hilton Head Island Wine and Food Festival in March. In the fall, enjoy the annual month-long celebration of art and culture with the Crescendo events in October and November. The Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival, which showcases a rare collection of automobiles, boats, and airplanes, is also held in November.

Outside

Hilton Head Island is a favorite destination for enjoying the outdoors. It allows visitors to relax, rejuvenate, and reconnect with nature. The natural environment is respected and supported through ecotourism by islanders and visitors alike. Bird watching and nature walks are fine ways to relax and connect with the natural world. Over two hundred species of birds frequent the island, and The Audubon Newhall Preserve and the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge are perfect spots for viewing. Every year between May and October the endangered loggerhead sea turtles nest on island beaches and the hatchlings begin their journey to the Atlantic Ocean. Island residents and visitors are very protective of these tiny turtles and Sea Turtle Patrol HHI oversees them until they make their way to the Atlantic Ocean.

Water Sports

Kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, sailing through Calibogue Sound or deep-sea fishing in the ocean are fabulous experiences for those who love the water. Shrimping and crabbing for blue crabs are true Lowcountry experiences. Boat rentals and charter fishing are enjoyed year-round.
