Avelo Airlines Takes Flight from Tweed Airport for Chicago, Raleigh-Durham and Washington, D.C.
Avelo now serves more nonstop destinations than any other airline in CT Introductory fares start at $59
NEW HAVEN, Conn.; May 26, 2022 — Avelo Airlines will take flight today from Southern Connecticut’s most convenient airport – Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) — for three new must-see destinations: Chicago, IL; Raleigh and Durham, NC; and Washington, D.C.
Avelo will serve the Windy City from the ultra-convenient Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW). Avelo will serve North Carolina’s Research Triangle from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). And Avelo will serve the nation’s capital from Baltimore / Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). With the inauguration of these three new nonstop routes, Avelo now flies to 13 destinations from Tweed. When Avelo begins service in Wilmington, NC, Avelo it will be one of the largest carriers in the state of Connecticut with 14 nonstop destinations.
To celebrate the occasion, Avelo is offering introductory one-way fares* to these three new destinations: Washington, D.C. ($59), Raleigh-Durham ($79) and Chicago ($89). The introductory fares are available at AveloAir.com.
Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said, “Avelo’s momentum at Tweed continues to build as we take flight today to three more popular destinations. Last November, we endeavored to make HVN Southern Connecticut’s most convenient airport. With today’s addition of Chicago, Raleigh-Durham and Washington, D.C., Avelo now brings more choice, affordability and ease-of-travel to the state than any other airline.”
So. Connecticut’s Most Convenient Airport Connects Three Must-See Cities
Amidst the crowds, long lines, lengthy walks and traffic congestion encountered at other airports frequented by Connecticut travelers, HVN offers a refreshingly smooth and simple alternative hometown airport experience. HVN’s adjacency to multiple major highways and commuter railways make it the region’s most convenient and easily accessible airport.
Avelo now operates five 147-seat Boeing Next-Generation 737-700s at its HVN base where it employs approximately 150 Crewmembers.
Tweed-New Haven Airport Executive Director Sean Scanlon said, “The addition of flights to Washington, Chicago and Raleigh-Durham is yet another important milestone in the overwhelming success story that is our partnership with Avelo. Starting this week, we now serve 13 destinations and are offering service to major business hubs for the first time since the 1990s. The future is bright here at HVN and if you haven’t flown with us yet, come see what all the hype is about!”
Chicago
Beginning today, flights will typically operate between HVN and MDW four days per week: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Chicago is bursting with world-class big city culture. At the same time, visitors are greeted by The Second City’s warm and welcoming Midwestern hospitality. Compared to the region’s other major airport, MDW is conveniently situated just minutes (by car or train) from famed restaurants, world-renowned museums, a jaw-dropping waterfront, groundbreaking music and Tony Award-winning theatres. Chicago is also home to iconic architecture, championship professional sports teams, and over 300 parks and green spaces that are the soul of Chicago’s vibrancy.
Raleigh-Durham
Beginning today, flights will typically operate between HVN and RDU four days per week: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The Research Triangle region offers the widest range of activities and attractions in North Carolina. Raleigh-Durham boasts award-winning inns, hotels and spas; culinary delights for every taste; and cultural experiences, including sprawling botanical gardens as well as art and history museums. A trip to this blossoming southern metropolis leaves visitors enriched and energized the moment they’re welcomed by its smart, savvy locals.
Washington, D.C
Beginning today, flights operate between HVN and BWI four days per week: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. BWI is located just 30 miles northeast of Washington, D.C. It is the perfect starting point for visiting the nation’s capital and the surrounding region, including Annapolis, Baltimore and Northern Virginia. The area boasts some of the country’s best shopping, dining, cultural and historical attractions, outdoor activities, and sports and entertainment venues.
Earlier this month, Avelo inaugurated its first four non-Florida destinations: Charleston, SC (CHS); Myrtle Beach, SC (MYR); Nashville, TN (BNA); and Savannah, GA (SAV). Once Avelo begins flying to Wilmington, NC (ILM) next month, the airline will serve 14 nonstop destinations from Tweed, including the six nonstop Florida destinations it started flying to last November: Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Fort Myers (RSW), Orlando (MCO), Sarasota/Bradenton (SRQ), Tampa (TPA) and West Palm Beach (PBI).
