Avelo to fly milestone flight on “Pizza Express” from Chicago to New Haven, CT

Airline surprises every Customer aboard landmark flight with free roundtrip ticket

Avelo celebrates with special $39 fare between Chicago and Southern Connecticut

CHICAGO; October 6, 2022 — This evening, Avelo Airlines will complete its 10,000th flight since its first departure 18 months ago — when Avelo became America’s first new airline in more than a decade. Avelo will celebrate the milestone flight between Chicago and New Haven, Connecticut by surprising every Customer aboard the Boeing 737 jetliner with a free roundtrip ticket.

The landmark flight (Avelo Airlines Flight 422) is scheduled to depart Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) at 7:25 p.m. tonight. In addition to the free roundtrip ticket Avelo is giving each of the nearly 130 Customers aboard tonight’s flight, Avelo is offering special “Pizza Express” one-way fares between New Haven and Chicago starting at $39* available at AveloAir.com.

Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said, “Every time one of our airplanes takes off, we are bringing Avelo’s Purpose – to Inspire Travel – to life. Tonight, as we celebrate Avelo’s 10,000th departure, we can take great pride in the time and money we have saved the more than 1.2 million Customers who have joined us on these flights. And we couldn’t be more excited that this milestone flight is departing Chicago for New Haven – two great American cities that share a passion for great pizza. With 31 beautiful and popular destinations to choose from — and more on the way — it won’t be long before we are celebrating Avelo’s 25,000th departure.”

Avelo began flying between MDW and HVN last May. The flight, known as the “Pizza Express,” connects The Second City’s most convenient airport with Southern Connecticut’s most convenient airport. The two cities also lay claim to having America’s best pizza.

Chicago’s Most Convenient Airport

Flights typically operate between MDW and HVN four days per week: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. In contrast to Chicago’s other major airport, MDW is conveniently situated just minutes (by car or train) from downtown.

Connecticut’s Ultra-Convenient Gateway

New Haven is an easy jumping off point for the rest of Connecticut, New England and New York. Amidst the crowds, long lines, lengthy walks and traffic congestion encountered at other airports in the region, HVN offers a refreshingly smooth and simple alternative hometown airport experience. HVN’s adjacency to multiple major highways and commuter railways make it the region’s most convenient and easily accessible airport.

Economic Development Corporation of New Haven CEO Ginny Kozlowski said, “We are grateful to Avelo for connecting Chicago and New Haven. Whether folks are visiting Southern Connecticut for business, vacation or to see family & friends, there is something here for everyone. And thanks to Avelo, getting here is easier than ever through the convenience of Chicago’s Midway airport and Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport. Congratulations Avelo on your 10,000th flight – we couldn’t imagine a better route to celebrate this milestone on.”

One third of seats on Avelo aircraft are available for Customers who appreciate the comfort of extra legroom.

Avelo now serves 31 destinations across the U.S. The airline has unlocked a new era of convenience, choice and competition in air travel by flying unserved routes to primarily underserved communities across the country. At least one airport on every Avelo flight is a small hometown airport – making every Avelo journey easier and more enjoyable.

At Avelo, every flight is also nonstop. This connection-free travel experience not only provides Avelo Customers with a faster and simpler travel experience, but also minimizes delays, cancellations and lost bags. In fact, Avelo has established itself as one of America’s most reliable airlines with a year-to-date flight cancellation rate of 1% and an industry-leading yearto-date checked bag handling performance.
