Note: All baggage tendered to Avelo Airlines for transportation is subject to surveillance and inspection by electronic and/or physical means with or without the Customer’s consent or knowledge by Avelo and/or authorized government agencies.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when checking bags with Avelo

How do you check a bag with Avelo Airlines?

Checking a bag with Avelo is easy and painless. You can purchase your checked bags ahead of time on aveloair.com, through our Customer Support Center at (346) 616-9500 or you can check your bags at the Avelo Airlines ticket counter at the airport before your flight.

We recommend pre-paying for your checked and/or carry-on bags during your initial reservation to save time and money. Airport checked and/or carry-on bags cost more than purchasing during the initial reservation.

Once at the airport, you can check your bags up to two hours before your departure to 40 minutes before take-off for domestic flights, or up to three hours before your departure to 60 minutes before take-off for international flights.

How many checked bags does Avelo Airlines allow per Traveler?

Customers can check up to 10 bags on domestic flights. For all international flights: There will be a limit of one (1) checked bag per traveler on flights between 11/16/24-12/4/24, 12/18/24-1/11/25, and 2/5/25-4/30/25; there will be a limit of two (2) checked bags per traveler on all other flight dates.

How much does it cost to check a bag with Avelo Airlines?

What is the checked bag weight limit?

The Avelo Airlines checked bag weight limit is 50 lbs. (22 kg). Any checked bag over this limit is subject to an additional $100 fee. Please note we will not accept bags over 70 lbs. 

What is the checked bag size limit?

The Avelo Airlines checked bag size limit is 62 inches (157 cm) in overall exterior dimensions (length + width + depth) including handles and wheels. Any checked bag over this limit is subject to an additional $100 fee. Please note we will not accept bags over 80 inches in the overall exterior dimensions. If you’re not sure whether your checked bag falls within our acceptable dimensions, we recommend measuring it before you leave for the airport.  

Are there exceptions to the checked bag size and weight limits?

Please view our policy on other special items that are accepted, such as sports equipment or musical instruments, which are subject to certain conditions.

Traveler tip: If you buy in advance, it will cost you less to bring two smaller, lighter bags than an oversized or overweight bag.  

Which items are prohibited in my checked bags? / Can I bring alcohol in my checked bags?

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration maintains a list of items that Customers are not permitted to carry in baggage. Alcohol is allowed, but pack it carefully! Please see our restricted and prohibited items page. 

Do military members get free checked bags?

Any active-duty military member on official or personal travel who presents a current active-duty military identification card may check two bags for free and is not subject to excess, oversize, or overweight baggage charges. The maximum weight for any checked bag is 70lbs. Active-duty military members may also bring one carry-on bag for free.
