Special baggage and sports equipment

We understand that sometimes you need to bring along your own gear for your trip. Below, you’ll find our packing requirements for specific sporting and recreational equipment. Excess, oversize, and/or overweight fees may apply, and we reserve the right to refuse transportation of certain items due to safety and/or operational limitations.

Archery equipment

Archery equipment, including a bow, arrows, and target will need to be encased in a container acceptable to Avelo for withstanding normal baggage handling without sustaining damage to the equipment.

Baseball equipment

We’ll accept one bag of baseball equipment per customer as a checked bag, which is subject to overweight and oversized bag fees. Please note that baseball bats are not allowed in carry-on bags and must be packed inside an appropriate equipment bag.

Bicycles

Bicycles (defined as non-motorized and having a single seat) properly packed in a hard-sided bicycle box that fall within the dimensions and weight limits established for normal checked bags (weighing up to 50 lbs. (22 kg) and measuring up to 62 inches (157) cm in overall exterior dimensions (length + width + depth)). Pedals and handlebars must be removed and packaged in protective materials so as not to be damaged by or cause damage to other baggage. Bicycles packaged in cardboard or soft-sided cases will be accepted subject to a limited release of liability, as outlined in our Baggage limitations of liability.

Boogie-board, kneeboard or wakeboard

Boogie-board, kneeboard or wakeboard will be encased in appropriate board bags or suitable containers.

Bowling equipment

We’ll accept one bowling bag per customer as a checked bag, which is subject to overweight and oversized bag fees.

Camping equipment

Camping equipment, including tents, backpacks and sleeping bags. Lanterns, stoves, flares and heating equipment that use liquid fuel, propane, butane, or similar fuels will not be accepted.

Drones

Drones are accepted on Avelo Airlines as both checked and carry-on baggage provided all batteries are removed from the item and carried in your carry-on bag. Fees may apply.

Dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide)

Dry ice may be carried under the following conditions:

  1. A maximum of 5.5 pounds (2.5 kilograms) of dry ice per Customer is accepted in a checked bag or carry-on bag.
  2. The cooler or package must allow the release of carbon dioxide gas and state “Dry Ice” or “Carbon Dioxide Solid” and specify the net weight of the dry ice material.
  3. Styrofoam containers are not accepted. We encourage the use of gel packs or similar products as an alternative to dry ice.

Fencing and kendo equipment

Fencing and kendo equipment will need to be securely encased in a container acceptable to Avelo.

Fishing tackle box and fishing equipment

Fishing tackle box and fishing equipment is acceptable, so long as the equipment is encased in a container suitable to Avelo for withstanding normal baggage handling without sustaining damage to the contents.

Golf bag (including clubs, balls and shoes)

Golf bag (including clubs, balls and shoes) should be encased in a hard-sided golf bag carrying case provided by Customer capable of withstanding normal baggage handling without sustaining damage to the contents. Hooded golf bags or golf bags in a soft-sided carrying case provided by the Customer will be accepted subject to a limited release of liability, as outlined in our Baggage limitations of liability.

Hockey or lacrosse equipment

Hockey and/or lacrosse stick(s), up to two taped together, and one equipment bag.

Javelins and pole-vaulting equipment

Javelins and pole-vaulting equipment encased in a hard-sided container.

Musical instruments

Musical instruments may be checked subject to a limited release of liability, as outlined in our Baggage limitations of liability. If the musical instrument exceeds 50 pounds (22.7 kilograms) (including case or covering) in weight or 62 linear inches (157 cm) in size (outside length plus height plus width, including case or covering), an additional charge may apply in accordance with our Excess, Oversize and Overweight Baggage standards.

Pool cues

Pool cues encased in a container acceptable to Avelo.

Scuba equipment

SCUBA equipment and all accompanying equipment encased together in a container acceptable to Avelo. Air tanks must be empty.

Skating equipment

Skating equipment, including ice skates, roller skates, roller blades and skateboards are acceptable as long as the equipment is non-powered.

Snow ski equipment

Snow ski equipment (including one pair of skis or one snowboard, one set of poles, and one pair of ski/snowboard boots) encased in a container acceptable to Avelo.

Surfing equipment

Surfing equipment including surfboards, kiteboards, paddleboards, wave skis and wind surfing equipment, so long as the equipment is well padded and encased in appropriate board bags or suitable containers. Any skegs or fins should be removed or be well-padded.

Water ski

Water ski equipment encased in a container acceptable to Avelo.
